What is gaming?

Electronic games can be played via consoles, computers, mobile phones, or other devices. Gameplay is a nuanced term that refers to regular, perhaps recreational, gameplay.

Despite traditionally being a solitary activity, online multiplayer gaming has become a very popular group activity as well.

The term 'gamer' or 'hardcore gamer' is often used to describe someone who has a passion for gaming.

There are several types of gaming:

Unlike in the past, video game genres are no longer easily discernible nowadays. Game developers are blending and blending different types of games in new and unexpected ways, which has led to a growing variety of genres and sub-genres to learn.

Video games are constantly evolving, which means the landscape is constantly changing. Studios follow trends and adhere to tight schedules. Let us help you as you navigate the changing landscape. In our list of video game genres, you'll find 10 of the most relevant categories of video games today.

Real-time strategy (RTS):

A real-time strategy (RTS) video game is a time-based game in which players use resources to build units and defeat their opponents.

A real-time strategy game is frequently compared to a turn-based strategy game, where the player is free to carefully consider his next move without worrying about what his opponent is doing.

As the player builds resources, defends bases, and launches attacks, the opposition is also scrambling to do the same.

As well as real-time strategy games, real-time war games may also be referred to as real-time simulations.

Shooters (FPS and TPS):

The gameplay in these games is influenced by the shooter genre in one way or another. The difference between the two types of shooters is perspective. FPS has the player holding the gun, whereas TPS has the player watching their avatar fire. Modern games allow players to change perspectives at any time.

Multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA):

A subgenre of strategy video games where two teams of players compete on predefined battlefields is known as team strategy. In the game, each player controls a character with an individual set of abilities. These abilities level up during a game and contribute to the team's overall strategy.

Real-time strategy with ARTS, also known as action real-time strategy, involves players controlling a single character in a team of two.

The objective is to destroy the opposing team's main structure with the assistance of periodically spawned computer-controlled units that follow established paths.

Role-playing (RPG, ARPG, and More):

Role-playing games that combine elements of action games and role-playing games are called action role-playing games (or ARPGs).

The games emphasize real-time combat rather than turn-based or menu-based combat, where players control characters directly. Stats determine a character's relative power and ability.

Many of these games use action game combat systems similar to those found in hack and slash and shooter games.

As well as action role-playing games, action adventure games may also feature mission systems and role-playing mechanics, or MMORPGs with real-time combat systems.

Simulation and sports:

The goal of sports simulation games is to get as close to actual competition as possible. To illustrate, let us take a look at a fantasy English Premier League.

During the season, 20 of the most talented teams from England and Wales compete in the premier league. These teams each play 38 games. In all, there were 19 home matches and 19 away games against all the other teams.

Teams get 3 points when they win a match. A draw results in 1 point for each team, while a loss results in 0 points. The champion is the team that finishes with the most points.

Due to advances in computer technology and video game technology, simulation games are becoming more sophisticated.

Simulating sports was done with a roll of the dice and statistical cards during their inception.

In current simulation games, gamers can choose players from the current roster or look back on history to their hearts' content.

Simulating sports was done with a roll of the dice and statistical cards during their inception.

Simulators are sophisticated thanks to the emergence and advancements in computer technology and video game technology.

Today's simulation games allow gamers to pick players from the current roster or look back into the past as much as they like.

Puzzlers and party games:

In terms of game mechanics, both of these games have some significant similarities. Most of these games will be themed or based on a traditional tabletop game.

Party games are usually multiplayer and involve a lot of gameplay. Puzzle games are games that involve puzzles. A simple game like Minesweeper (Microsoft) can be as immersive as Tomb Raider (Core Design) or Portal 2 (Valve).

Action-adventure:

Action adventure is a genre which includes many games that might be better classified under more narrow genres. Pure adventure games are usually about solving situational problems with very little or no action.

There are generally only isolated minigames when there is action. In pure action games, the gameplay is based on real-time interactions that test the players' reflexes. Due to this, action-adventure games allow players to exercise both reflexes and problem-solving skills in both violent and non-violent situations.

Survival and horror:

Survival horror is a type of video game that tries to frighten players with either graphic horror or scary ambience. It is a subgenre of action-adventure and horror games.

Platformer:

Video games that have platforming mechanics entail players controlling characters who run and jump onto platforms, floors, ledges, and stairs on a single (horizontal or vertical) screen.

Despite similarities, it is different from an auto-runner game. This subgenre is often considered part of the action genre.

In the 1980s, platform games were developed, making them one of the earliest video game genres. However, the term platform game or platformer wasn't used to describe them until a few years later.

The best upcoming games of 2022:

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild:

We had all our fingers crossed that Breath of the Wild, first teased several years ago, would be the game Nintendo would pair with the Switch OLED during its Christmas 2021 sales push.

Nintendo says that it is planning to release the game this year. While we don't even have a name yet, the trailers the Japanese giant has released make Link's next adventure our most eagerly anticipated title by far.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Pass:

Nintendo hasn't announced Mario Kart 9, but when Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to sell like hotcakes it's perhaps not surprising. This is because they still believe there is life in the old dog.

Nintendo will not release any new tracks, but it will remaster 48 that have appeared in the long-running Mario Kart series and release them in batches until 2023.

We'll hopefully receive fresh content every few months for what is already a near-perfect kart racing game, which should tide us over nicely until the next game in the series is ready.

The Booster Pass Course is available as DLC via one-off payment or for free if you're a Nintendo Switch Online subscriber.

Elden Ring:

There is no greater collaboration than that between Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R. R. Martin. This is the same George R. R. Martin.

The author of Game of Thrones helped shape the lore and mythos for this incredibly ambitious action RPG. The game, like its predecessors Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, is focused on exploration and challenging third-person combat.

It all takes place on a massive open-world map, though. There are no Souls games for everyone. However, if you relish punishing difficulty and want to immerse yourself in a rich fantasy world this year, Elden Ring is definitely worth checking out.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus:

It has become known as the Pokémon version of Breath of the Wild. As the camera pans across a vast, watercolour-like landscape in the launch trailer, with piano keys twinkling in the background, it's impossible not to make the connection to Nintendo Switch's most successful ever game.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus' Hisui region may not be able to rival Hyrule in terms of open-world excitement, but it still seems like an excellent location for the most thrilling Pokémon adventure in years.

You'll still be catching Pokémon in turn-based battles, but rather than working through a series of gym leaders in a world where domesticated fighting Pokémon are very much the norm, Legends is set in a bygone era when these creatures were pretty mysterious.

You're responsible for exploring the wild and catching all the Pokémon you can, thus creating the region's first Pokédex.

If you've been looking for a Pokémon game that shatters the traditional formula, this could be it - and it just came out.
